The Counseling Process
Fees and Insurance

Womencare, founded by Laurie Kahn in 1978, is committed to encouraging and sustaining healthy relationships with self, others, family and community. We believe relationships that encourage mutuality, voice and dignity are crucial to growth and healing. In service of this vision, Womencare provides individual, relationship and family counseling, as well as ongoing and time-limited groups.

We understand that the decision to enter therapy is an important one and that many factors must be weighed in the process. We are committed to being responsive to those who have the courage to seek help.

The first step toward starting counseling with us is to call our intake counselor. She will speak with you about your counseling needs, discuss appointment times and fees with you, and try to make a good match with one of our therapists.

Approaches to Therapy

Our therapists each bring a unique approach, set of gifts, and areas of expertise. Among our staff we have therapists who incorporate a variety of approaches: modern psychodynamic, narrative, interpersonal, feminist therapy, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, internal family systems, hypnotherapy, transactional analysis, Jungian, humanistic, self-psychology, art therapy, play therapy... What unites us is our commitment to a relational approach to therapy, which embraces individuals in all facets of their identities. This model seeks to establish relationships based on mutuality, empowerment, and respect, and values the connection to the self as well as to others.

Our therapists collaborate with clients toward the goal of emotional well-being, supporting healing and resilience in many areas, including:
