The Wounded Healer: Embracing Capacities & Vulnerabilities
Sunday, March 17, 2019, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm$65.00
Therapists are often taught to hide their vulnerabilities. We may consider the wounds from our childhoods to be a dangerous liability. This perspective fosters secrecy, shame and isolation. Woundedness, I have come to believe, is a metaphor for our shared humanity.
In this workshop, we will celebrate the depth of compassion and empathy of the wounded healer. We will also address the risks and responsibilities required to engender trust and healing for our clients, and encourage curiosity about how our emotions and past experiences inform our work.
This workshop will address:
- The importance of mindfulness, consultation and self-awareness for the wounded healer
- Understanding the impact of the dynamics of shame on the wounded healer
- The skills necessary for effective management of countertransference reactions
- The pros and cons of sharing personal history with clients
3 CEUs are available to LCSWs, LCPCs, LMFTs, PhDs and PsyDs
Held at Womencare Counseling & Training Center, Evanston
